Liverpool has the rather unfortunate distinction of being the last Premier League team to make a summer transfer in 2024. And the wait for a transfer move is set to go on for a little longer after the latest updates.
Arne Slot is still hoping to get his first signing as Reds boss over the line before the window closes on August 30, but Martin Zubimendi won't be that player. He's rejected a move to Merseyside, as he wants to continue playing for Real Sociedad.
Giorgi Mamardashvili is said to be on Liverpool's radar, along with Anthony Gordon. In terms of exits, Fabio Carvalho has now completed his move to Brentford, while Bobby Clark's Liverpool future remains unclear after a cryptic social media post.

Johan Bakayoko boost
Liverpool may have been given a much-needed transfer boost by PSV Eindhoven and Johan Bakayoko.
The Reds have been linked with the Belgium international this summer, although RB Leipzig seemed to be leading the race - that was until they wrapped up a deal for Club Brugge star Antonio Nusa.
That may well open the door again for the Reds to make a play for Bakayoko, and according to reports, PSV is wary of a last-minute offer this month. Read more here.

Liverpool trio attracting interest
Liverpool could be set for more departures this summer, with three players being lined up for loan moves.
According to The Atheltic, Kaide Gordon, Owen Beck and Luca Stephenson could all be set for temporary moves this summer.
Swansea City is said to be showing interest in Gordon, while QPR is leading the chase for Beck. Stephenson, meanwhile, is attracting interest from League One.

Bobby Clark offer 'considered'
Liverpool is considering a third bid from Red Bull Salzburg for Bobby Clark, according to The Times.
The latest offer from Pep Lijnders' side is thought to be closer to the Reds' $12.8m (£10m) asking price. Salzburg had a second offer of $10.3m (£8m) rejected on Sunday.
Lijnders is said to be determined to take Clark to Austria. There has been talk of a potential loan move for the midfielder, although Liverpool is currently weighing up this latest offer.

Giorgi Mamardashvili offer 'rejected'
Valencia has reportedly rejected a first offer from Liverpool for Giorgi Mamardashvili.
As mentioned earlier, the Reds are said to be eyeing up the Georgia goalkeeper, with a view to loaning him back to Valencia straightaway.
It's suggested though the Reds' first bid has been pushed back, although it's worth mentioning that comes from El Chiringuito, who came out with that Luis Diaz to Man City rumor before. Make of that what you will...

Luis Diaz 'tempted' by transfer
Although suggestions of a move to Manchester City have been well and truly disproven, Luis Diaz's future at Liverpool remains a talking point.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Colombian is tempted by the possibility of a move to Barcelona as the Catalan club renews its interest.
Liverpool is said to be unlikely to compromise on its valuation of around $63m (£49m), which could pose a problem to Barca amid their financial problems.

Giogi Mamardashvili agent arrives for talks
Giorgi Mamardashvili's agent has reportedly been spotted arriving in Valencia amid his links with Liverpool.
Spanish journalist Salva Gomis has posted a picture of Levan Seturidze at the airport as he arrives for a meeting with Valencia over his client's future.
The Reds are said to be eyeing up a move for the Georgian goalkeeper, with Mamardashvili expected to be loaned back to Valencia.

Youssoufa Moukoko move set to collapse
Youssoufa Moukoko's move from Borussia Dortmund to Marseille is on the verge of collapsing, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The French club is said to be prepared to leave negotiations after long talks, with several clubs still interested in the forward.
Moukoko has been previously linked with Liverpool, so the chance could be there to make a move if the Reds want to.

New Sepp van den Berg offer
PSV Eindhoven is preparing a new offer for Sepp van den Berg before the transfer deadline, according to Football Insider.
Liverpool has already rejected bids from the Eredivise champions this summer, with PSV having fallen well short of the $26m (£20m/€23m) asking price.
The Dutch club remains interested though, and is reportedly set to make an improved offer. It's expected that it will still be well short of Liverpool's valuation though, so we can probably tell you already how it's going to end.

Luis Diaz rumor rubbished
In case there was still anyone still believing those Luis Diaz to Manchester City rumors...
The Athletic's City correspondent Sam Lee rubbished it fairly quickly, saying there was no truth to it.
Since then, both James Pearce and Lewis Steele have both said Liverpool has had no approaches from Diaz from ANY club. So, we can confidently put that one to bed.

Johan Bakayoko transfer latest
Liverpool has been linked with a move for PSV winger Johan Bakayoko in the past but Sacha Tovalieri reports that the only concrete proposal to come for the 21-year-old this summer has come from Nottingham Forest.
PSG and several other big sides around Europe are said to be watching Bakayoko but he wouldn't be harmed by spending another year in the Netherlands. He is talented, but still quite raw.

Bordeaux wonderkid Mathys Angely makes decision on future
Linked with a move to Liverpool, 17-year-old Bordeaux starlet Mathys Angely is set to join Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, according to Le Parisien. Lens had also been suggested as a possible destination for the teenager.
The deal will be a free transfer because of Bordeaux's financial troubles. A medical has been undertaken and it is said that the move will be announced in the next few hours.

Liverpool's dream end to the transfer window
What does Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes need to do from here? With 17 days left of the transfer window, there is plenty to be getting on with.
Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi won't be coming to Anfield but the Reds need to source an alternative having identified the number six position as a priority to address.
Anthony Gordon would be a dream addition in attack while a center-back wouldn't go amiss either. All of that happening in little more than two weeks, though, seems incredibly unlikely.
KEY EVENT
Ben Doak could be sold permanently
Liverpool could allow Ben Doak to exit on a permanent basis this summer, according to The Athletic. The young Scotland winger might also depart on loan in search of regular senior minutes.
It would be a surprise to many if he was sold but Liverpool could agree a sell-on and buy-back clause. Leicester City and Southampton are just two of the sides named as being keen so far.

Luis Diaz linked with bizarre transfer move
Luis Diaz has supposedly come to an agreement over a move to Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola's side said to be willing to pay $76m (£60m/€70m) for the Liverpool winger. Yes, you read that correctly. (That's according to El Chiringuito, at least).
The Athletic's Sam Lee has swiftly put those rumors to bed. It is, quite clearly, fanciful that Liverpool would sell him to a Premier League rival. We're in transfer silly season!
KEY EVENT
"One more meeting" about possible transfer
Liverpool will hold "one more meeting" about the possibility of signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, according to Fabrizio Romano. The 23-year-old goalkeeper, it is stated, would be loaned out until Alisson Becker is ready to depart should the deal happen.
Mamardashvili has a price tag of $33m (£26m/€30m) and Valencia has already accepted that he will be moving on this summer. It is said that it will be "up to the Reds" whether or not they want to make the deal happen with the player said to be open to making the switch.

Luca Stephenson wanted
Liverpool academy prospect Luca Stephenson has interest from several League One sides, according to The Athletic. He could head out on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.
Playing right-back during pre-season because of a lack of options there, he is actually a midfielder. Stephenson should have a good future ahead of him somewhere in the EFL and a loan switch would be a good move for him.

Mark Lawrenson's Liverpool transfer verdict
Liverpool will bring in a couple of players before the August 30 transfer deadline. That is according to former Reds defender Mark Lawrenson.
"I think Liverpool might bring in a couple of players before the transfer window shuts," he told Paddy Power. "I'd be surprised if they didn’t. If you’re FSG and you appoint the new manager, you don’t want to just let him work with the old squad.
"I think they’ll most definitely get a couple and that would be a good thing for the manager so then he's got his own players. The problem for Arne Slot will be if he has a run of three games where he doesn’t get a win, it's the reaction from that. It's massive boots to fill."
Lawrenson isn't sure about Anthony Gordon, though. Liverpool agreed a deal in principle for the Newcastle United man earlier in the summer but that didn't end up going through.
"If Gordon came to Liverpool, he might possibly start ahead of Luis Diaz," Lawro continued. "He had his own problems last year off the pitch, but he finished the season really strongly.
"I just wonder whether the Gordon links are because Newcastle needed to let a few players go but I think that [the rumors] were a bit of a red herring. I didn’t really get that to be honest with you."

PSG drops out of Rayan Cherki race
Liverpool has been linked with Rayan Cherki at times in the past and L’Equipe reports that PSG has now ended its interest in the player after activating the release clause required to bring in Desire Doue.
As well as the Reds, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Spurs could also be interested in signing Cherki, PSG Talk reports. If Liverpool wants to make a move, it would win the race. That seems unlikely, though, to say the least.
KEY EVENT
Luis Diaz back on the agenda for Barcelona
With Dani Olmo signed and Nico Williams potentially unattainable this summer, Liverpool forward Luis Diaz is back on the radar of Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Liverpool would need to sign a replacement for Diaz if he was to leave. Doing that at this point in the summer would be very difficult, even if Anthony Gordon is still admired.

Stefan Bajcetic could head out on loan
Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic spent the whole of last season out injured but has worked his way back to fitness now. He could, according to The Athletic, head out on a temporary basis next season.
The 19-year-old could do with getting regular minutes and there would be no shortage of suitors for the Spaniard. Bajcetic is a huge talent and a possible long-term solution at number six, but only when he is back at full sharpness again.
After the friendly against Sevilla at the weekend, he stayed out on the pitch and did some extra running with one of the Liverpool coaching staff, so is clearly not quite back to his best yet.

Jamie Carragher believes Wataru Endo could be sold
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher appeared on the Blood Red podcast yesterday and he says that Wataru Endo could move on this summer. The Reds have already rejected a bid for him from Marseille.
"I think that last pre-season game, we all knew as players when we were playing, if you are in the team in that last standout pre-season game, then you have a great chance of playing," Carragher said.
"It looked like he had Gravenberch in that number six position, it will be interesting who he puts there if he gets the signing that he wants from Real Sociedad over the line before then.
"I think the standout thing for me, in terms of the holding midfield position, the fact that we put in a bid for a player and also the manager has played every single player in that role, except Endo.
"I know he played him at the start of the tour of America. Was that against Betis? I didn’t see the game, but I saw some reports that he found it difficult.
"I think Endo will go. I am pretty confident of that. It almost looks like he is completely the opposite of what he (Slot) wants in that role. It doesn’t mean that he is a bad player. It just means that when a manager wants to play a slightly different type of game, tactics, or set-up.
"I think he will play virtually everybody there instead of Endo actually – that’s why I think he will move on."

Virgil van Dijk contract talks
Liverpool will open contract talks with Virgil van Dijk near the end of the year, according to Caught Offside. While negotiating during the transfer window might be tricky because the focus is elsewhere, leaving it much beyond September would seem like an unnecessary risk.
As well as Van Dijk, Liverpool also needs to tie down Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah to new deals. All three players are out of contract at the end of the season and the trio are expected to be key men under Arne Slot. Losing any of them for no transfer fee is surely not an option.

Bruno Guimaraes wanted?
Liverpool sources have played down talk that Bruno Guimaraes could be an option for the Reds this summer, according to The Athletic. The Newcastle ace is also admired by Manchester City.
Likely to cost north of $100m, the 26-year-old Brazilian has been hugely impressive in the Premier League and can play as a number six or a number eight. Pep Guardiola has looked at him as versatile cover for Rodri as a result.
Liverpool, with Martin Zubimendi no longer an option, could do with an alternative. Guimaraes, though, was always going to be an ambitious target. Like Anthony Gordon, Newcastle is desperate to keep him.
KEY EVENT
Martin Zubimendi alternatives
While the Daily Mirror and others have reported that Liverpool may not sign an alternative to Martin Zubimendi, who could the Reds potentially consider? Having identified that position as a priority, it would be a risk not to address it.
- Ederson
- Alan Varela
- Morten Frendrup
- Manu Kone
Those are the names that Jeremy Goldstein has come up with. I'd probably add Frenkie de Jong in there too and while Crystal Palace would demand a fortune, possibly Adam Wharton as well. Let us know who you want in the comments...

Richard Hughes' reaction to Martin Zubimendi collapse
Liverpool will not be signing Martin Zubimendi this summer despite the 25-year-old having given the Reds his word on a deal. He has decided to stay with Real Sociedad.
Sporting director Richard Hughes has been left "angry" by Zubimendi's decision, according to the Daily Mail. It is suggested that Liverpool may not sign an alternative — and there are no obvious options to turn to — but that would be a big risk.
Arne Slot has identified that role as being an important one to strengthen in his side. It would be far from ideal not to bring anyone in for that department.
KEY EVENT
Giorgi Mamardashvili latest
Liverpool is eyeing up a move for Giorgi Mamardashvili, as per Fabrizio Romano.
The 23-year-old shot-stopper has been turning heads at Valencia over the past three years and is viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Alisson.
Valencia are said to be holding out for a minimum of €30 million ($32.8 million) for Mamardashvili, who is eager to make the switch to Anfield.
Should the transfer go through, it's expected that Mamardashvili would be loaned back to Valencia for at least one season, given that Alisson is still only 31.
KEY EVENT
Should Liverpool sign Nico Williams?
Barcelona's president Joan Laporta has seemingly ruled out a move for Nico Williams. The 22-year-old winger was a standout performer at Euro 2024, helping Spain lift the trophy and earning himself a spot in the Team of the Tournament.
Williams has quickly become one of the hottest properties in European soccer. Barcelona was leading the chase for the Athletic Bilbao star, but the recent arrival of his Spanish teammate Dani Olmo appears to have changed its plans.
When asked by a fan about signing Williams during a public appearance, Laporta responded: "We already have a good squad."
This apparent lack of interest from Barcelona could pave the way for Liverpool to make its move. The Reds have previously shown interest in Williams.
