AAA Insurance Review

AAA insurance is rated 3.4/5 by WalletHub’s editors, based on customer reviews, sample insurance quotes, and ratings from organizations such as J.D. Power and the Better Business Bureau (BBB). AAA customer reviews highlight the company’s affordable rates, but its NAIC rating is 15.46, which means AAA has received more complaints than the average car insurance provider its size. Customer complaints tend to focus on poor customer service and delayed claims payments.

We should note that AAA insurance policies are only available to AAA members. The organization offers three membership levels (Classic, Plus and Premier), giving members special benefits like roadside assistance, vacation planning services, retail discounts and more. A Classic membership – the lowest level – costs $68 per year in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee, for example, but prices vary by state. You can contact your regional AAA office for more details.

AAA insurance is pretty affordable, though it’s not the cheapest you’ll find. It ranks in the second quartile in WalletHub’s cost comparison.

AAA Home Insurance Review Highlights

AAA offers a wide variety of homeowners, renters and condo insurance options to suit a range of budgets and needs. There are lots of discounts, too, as well as 24/7 claims support by phone.

For homeowners, AAA offers insurance policies through a broad network of affiliated insurance companies. This means if you contact AAA to get a homeowners insurance quote, it will come through the trusted AAA partner company, like Auto Club Insurance or MemberSelect Insurance, that serves your region. Policies cover the cost to repair or rebuild your home if it’s damaged because of a covered loss, and they also cover damage to detached structures on your property like sheds, fences and swimming pools.

For renters, insurance from AAA protects you and your belongings from covered risks like storm damage, natural disasters, and theft. It covers the full cost to replace or restore your personal belongings, and there’s extra coverage for big-ticket items like jewelry, furs, art collections and more.

Finally, condo insurance through AAA offers coverage where your master condo policy falls short. In addition to covering walls, floors, ceilings and electrical fixtures, AAA condo insurance covers appliances, cabinets, countertops and window treatments.

Bottom Line: Is AAA Insurance a Good Company?

AAA is a pretty good insurance company that has built a reputation for providing reliable policies to its members at affordable prices, with the help of generous discounts. In addition to its auto, homeowners, and life insurance policies, AAA offers coverage for boats, motorcycles, pets and more.

AAA scores well when it comes to its claims process and transparency. However, it could make improvements in the customer service department. To learn more, read WalletHub’s complete AAA insurance review, or check out some of the reviews from fellow consumers below.

I don't know how good their insurance is but overall the company sucks. I think The CEO Should have more access they treat you like a dog if you ask to speak to anyone at the corporate headquarters. I think a company is hiding things if you can't speak to the person who makes close to a million dollars on your year something's wrong.

I don’t even know how they're still in business. I have been lied to. I was even told my car was missing for 24 hours. They picked up my car at 2 PM, and at 6 o'clock, the dealership called and told me my car had not arrived. The next morning, I got a phone call from the dealership saying my car was parked over by the sales department, under the mat, and it was parked crooked. Now, this is all related to a renter's insurance policy that they denied. I still have not been able to get reimbursed for my relocation because they denied my claim based on the word of the complex's management. Wow, that sounds like corruption if you ask me, working with the management of the apartment complex. And an AAA worker lived there and worked in that department. It’s crazy. I'm not going to give up on exposing the corruption that I have experienced in Orange County. I’m sure this is going to cause me a lot of problems, but I’m willing to stand up. We, the people, may God protect us from such individuals! I encourage people to post your experience if you’ve had this happen to you and have never been paid out. When I would go to the different offices, they said that people were working from home. Well, how am I going to get reimbursed? It's insanity. I will not give up; the inspector general is my next step. Remember, if this happened to you, report it to the inspector general. They need to be stopped. They are outright criminals, and they ruin our lives.

Worst service ever! Do not waste your money on a service they can barely provide. Unfortunately, I needed two tows during Mother's Day weekend, both of which took over a night to be honored. I was misled into believing tow drivers were en route to me when they were not. I slept in a hot van and missed taking my insulin; this service is unreliable, to say the least! The manager, Josh, whom I spoke to today, was unconcerned and unfriendly. I'm very disappointed; I feel the company is selling more services than they can provide.

Left stranded because the guy couldn't provide service with a photo of my ID. I explained that I had just lost my wallet. The AAA guy had no empathy and wanted to charge me to change my flat tire. I waited an entire hour for him to show up, only for him to leave me abandoned. I was stuck; it was late at night.

Do not purchase a battery from AAA Battery Service; they are deliberately selling poor-quality batteries, forcing customers to exhaust their services on jump starts. A driver advised me against buying another one from them, as they are substandard. I had a battery replaced, and it failed after just one day of inactivity. When I contacted them for a second jump start, the driver failed to properly secure my terminals, causing my car to shut off while driving, and necessitating another call. That resulted in the use of two services in a single day. They are deceiving people for financial gain, showing no concern for the impact on consumers. This has harmed both my spirit and my finances. To avoid a repeat of this experience, I am purchasing a replacement battery from Costco. Never before have I encountered batteries failing so quickly. I am currently reconsidering whether to renew my roadside service. My complaint is specifically about Fortes Battery Service, which has been thoroughly unsatisfactory.

The person who hit me and I are at a standstill. They are refusing to cover my out-of-pocket costs because they themselves have to pay it. Their claims adjusters do anything they can to avoid being responsive. I am switching insurers.

"I never anticipated that I would be dropped from insurance simply because I was experiencing technical difficulties getting my phone to approve going paperless. You lost a $600-a-year insurance policy over $35. However, it's amusing; I got a better insurance policy for two cars at the same price you were charging for one, so I appreciate you saving me over $600 a year. I went with Progressive. Have a nice day. I did everything within my ability to resolve the issue, but your policy meant that I could not even get insurance with you. After this experience, I'm pleased with the outcome and wish to advise others reading this—I do not recommend it. You could end up going six months without insurance because you're out of town and unable to check your mail, and they won't email you or give you a phone call. While I trust them for roadside service, I will never trust them for car insurance again.

I would have given a 0-star rating if I could have.

This is the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. They messed up my whole policy and were terrible at fixing it. I don't recommend using this insurance; they don't resolve anything and take months to do anything right. Absolutely terrible. Use any other insurance but not this one. I will not be returning to this company.

I will not recommend Triple AAA insurance to anyone due to their tendency to provide incorrect information to their customers and deliver poor customer satisfaction. When attempting to resolve issues, seeking a manager often leads to the same disappointing outcome. I will not refer anyone to become a member of Triple-A as my entire experience with this company has been unsatisfactory. In my opinion, this is the worst place to have your car insurance or conduct any business with. Their employees are very rude and in need of more training, including the supervisors and managers.

Hello. I recently called AAA for battery service when my car battery died in the car line. We saw the AAA car and tried to stop him. He did not stop and sped off, leaving without helping us. A kind lady called and asked if we had canceled our appointment, and I responded that we had not—the driver just drove away. This occurred at a school with children around, and I would hate for someone to get hurt. Please call me next time, and I will show you where I am.

Had been with AAA for over 50 years, when they hiked my insurance premium by over 50%, due to a non fault claim. When I called to cancel the insurance, they made no attempt to retain my business. I was informed later that the cancellation was not done 10 days prior to the end of the term and therefore charged me $25. And they threatened me that if I did not pay the fine, AAA would report it as a nonpayment on my credit history…. Total blackmail!
Stay away from AAA.

It started out great! Saved a lot of money and kept the same limits and deductible ($100,000/$300,000 & $1,000 deductible). I just got my renewal, and it increased by over $850 per year! No accidents and no tickets! Sounds like bait and switch to me!

Really bogus insurance company. Their policy holder hit my parked SUV and drove away. I caught the license plate in my dash cam footage. There was a witness who saw it and took a picture of the license plate and parking security cam footage clearly showed this person (and his plate) hitting my bumper and driving away. I filed a claim with his AAA insurance and sent all the evidence. The adjuster sat on it for 1.5 months, ignoring all my emails and phone calls. Then one day I get a postal mail saying AAA can't assist with my claim as their policy holder will not corroborate, meaning they will take his word for it and ignore every fact to avoid paying for the damages. Completely unprofessional. What a phony adjuster. It's a great insurance company if you hit someone else's car since they will do everything to sweep it under the rug.

We experienced a hail storm in September of 2023. They have yet to approve items that the original adjuster had agreed upon. The original adjuster omitted various elements from the claim when submitting it, resulting in considerable confusion. Our contractor struggles to make progress because AAA is offering to pay far less than the actual costs. Furthermore, our claims representative mentioned that all of our emails were going into her Spam folder, despite us simply responding to her messages. I have been with Triple A insurance for nearly 30 years, I believe, and am disappointed by the quality of service currently being provided. Instead of thoroughly and promptly repairing the damage, they prefer to implement temporary solutions and consider the matter resolved.

Why is AAA so cheap?

Reply

McKayla Girardin, Car Insurance Writer

@mckayla_girardin

AAA is so cheap because the company offers a wide variety of discounts that almost anyone can get. A minimum coverage policy from AAA costs an average of $82 per month, and AAA premiums can be made even cheaper by taking advantage of discounts such as paid-in-full discount and safety inspection discount. Plus, AAA rewards customer loyalty with discounts for insuring more than one car and bundling multiple policies, such as home and auto.
